A Cottonwood Falls man will spend nearly 20 years in prison on a federal count relating to child sex abuse materials.
Walter Haskin had pleaded guilty to attempted distribution of child pornography back in June. Judge John Broomes sentenced Haskin to 230 months, with the recommendation for the prison term to be served at either Englewood, Colorado, or Marion, Illinois. Haskin will also have lifetime postrelease supervision and is responsible for nearly $80,000 in restitution.
Federal prosecutors had accused Haskin of possessing and distributing sex abuse materials depicting sexual situations involving children under the age of 10.
Separately, an Americus woman has accepted a plea agreement. Brandi Snyder pleaded guilty to single counts of distribution of child pornography and possession of child pornography. Two counts of producing child pornography were dropped.
A sentencing date is pending.
Snyder was charged last summer with two counts of producing child sex abuse materials, along with single counts of possession and distribution. Documents through the federal court’s PACER system now indicate more than 150 documents and three audio and/or video recordings as part of the case.
Snyder faces federal prison terms of five to 20 years on the distribution charge and up to 20 years in prison on the possession charge.
