The 2023 Flint Hills Beef Fest is now underway.
Activities began Friday morning with the Live Stocker Show which transitioned to the annual Beef Producers Seminar inside of the Bowyer Community Building. Among the seminar’s presenters was Kansas Livestock Association President Shawn Tiffany who discussed various topics including one that is well known to local residents, drought.
Tiffany says “You don’t have to go far from the Flint Hills to find folks that aren’t in a drought.” In terms of major impacts, he says stock water became a major issue and crop production took a strong hit.
Tiffany says there is also some good news in terms of crop production further to the north.
Friday’s activities closed down with the Ranch Feed and Ranch Rodeo in the Lyon County Fairgrounds grandstands. Beef Fest activities will continue Saturday with the free hamburger feed courtesy of the Beef Fest Committee and KVOE at 11 am.
Saturday night’s festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. with the awards banquet, followed by a steak dinner and entertainment from comedian Tim Moffett. The Steve Kile Band will close out Saturday’s activities with a dance from 9 to 11:30 p.m. at the Bowyer Building.
Tickets for the Steak Dinner, entertainment and dance are $40 and can only be purchased in advance.
Festivities conclude Sunday with the Beef Fest Golf Tournament at 8:30 a.m. at Emporia Golf Course.
