Eighteen months after the Kansas Department of Transportation approved contracts, electric vehicle charging stations are now available at the Kansas Turnpike’s Matfield Green service exit.
The contract as announced in February 2022 had Francis Energy LLC handling the installation. The state set aside over $335,000 for the work, with Francis Energy providing 20 percent of the total.
The charging stations at the Matfield Green service area were among seven charging station locations approved at that time. All seven involved Direct Current Fast Charging technology, which can fully charge vehicles in 30 minutes under normal circumstances.
