Court proceedings are temporarily on hold in an Emporia arson and attempted murder case.
On Friday, Judge Laura Miser granted Donovan Williams’ defense attorney, Ty Wheeler, permission to withdraw from the case after discovering a conflict of interest and receiving Williams’ request for a new lawyer. New defense counsel will be appointed by Williams’ next hearing Sept. 8.
Williams is accused of throwing a homemade incendiary device into an apartment window at 825 Congress in April with people inside the dwelling at the time. He currently faces 11 total counts in Lyon County District Court, including one each of aggravated arson and attempted first-degree murder, as well as five counts of aggravated child endangerment, two of endangerment and two of criminal use of explosives.
