Many area crop producers have some uncomfortable decisions ahead — and they may not have much time before those decisions can’t wait.
Lyon County Extension ag agent Brian Rees says the combination of extreme summertime conditions this week has done a number on corn.
Rees says a lot of corn has already been cut for silage — earlier than some farmers had hoped.
Beans aren’t faring much better.
Rees says farmers who are at least considering converting their beans into hay need to check their product labels — specifically those for herbicides. Many bean herbicide labels explicitly tell farmers not to use those crops for hay or animal feed.
