Saturday was a strong start to the season for the Emporia High volleyball team.
The Lady Spartans won the AVCTL Preseason Tournament hosted by Newton with a 4-1 record.
Emporia High picked up wins over Andale (25-16, 25-10), Wichita Southeast (25-21, 25-9), Maize (22-25, 25-19, 25-21) and Garden City (25-20, 25-19). The Lady Spartans were swept by Newton (25-14, 25-22).
Emporia High will host Topeka High, Topeka West, and Highland Park in a quad on Thursday. Matches will start at 5 p.m. at Emporia High School.
