A vehicle pursuit that began in Chase County ended with a crash and hospital trip for two individuals in Lyon County Saturday night.
According to Chase County Sheriff Jacob Welsh the pursuit began at mile marker 316 on US Highway 50 just before 6:15 pm after Chase County Deputies attempted to stop a Kia passenger for alleged speeding and wreckless driving. Welsh says the vehicle was allegedly traveling at speeds in excess of 100 mph and “fled immediately” triggering the pursuit.
The chase soon entered Lyon County, specifically Emporia, where Lyon County Sheriff Jeff Cope says the suspect vehicle turned off of US Highway 50 north onto Road G. The vehicle then crashed into a ditch in the 1700 Block of G.
Deputies reported the vehicle was smoking at the time of the crash, however, further details are pending. The occupants of the vehicle, a male and female, were taken to Newman Regional Health with non-life threatening injuries according to the Emporia Fire Department.
The individuals names have not yet been released. Cope says they will be booked into the Lyon County Jail following their release from the hospital with formal charges likely to be filed through the Lyon County Attorney’s office.
This is an ongoing investigation. KVOE will have additional details and information as it becomes available.
