Arraignment is taking place this week for an Emporia man accused of child rape in Wichita.
John Robert Burton currently faces two counts, one of rape and one of aggravated indecent liberties, both involving an alleged victim under the age of 14. The case is sealed, so neither the affidavit — the law enforcement narrative — nor the criminal complaint have been filed on the Kansas District Court Public Access Portal.
Burton was arrested on South Emporia Street in Wichita in late June. Emporia Police have confirmed their involvement helping the Wichita case.
Bond has been set at $250,000 and Burton must wear a GPS device. He also can’t have any contact with anybody under age 16 without “an authorized, responsible adult present.”
Burton’s arraignment is at 2 pm Thursday in Wichita. He could well learn potential trial dates at that hearing.
