The charter bus that crashed outside Emporia early Sunday morning involved members of the Ottawa University football team and coaching staff.
The university says the bus was northbound on Interstate 35 after playing Southwestern College in WInfield and was carrying the defense and its coaches when it went off the highway and stopped in a ditch between the Burlingame Road and East Sixth Avenue exits. The university says the bus had a mechanical issue and lost all steering in the process.
The students and coaches were escorted back to Ottawa by Lyon County deputies.
