Experience returns for the Emporia High girls tennis team.
Three Lady Spartans qualified for state a season ago. Sophomore Kali Keough finished eighth in singles and the doubles team of sophomore Peyton Chanley and senior Ashlynn Foraker also qualified for state.
Also returning is senior Darian Chadwick, who got valuable playing experience at regionals.
Keough has been playing for the majority of the summer and is one singles player to watch in Class 5A. Even though she’s a player to keep an eye on this year, Keough says she’s just got to go out and play.
Foraker says gaining the state experience last year gives her confidence heading into the season looking to accomplish more.
Coach Saul Trujillo says he likes the group he has with just two newcomers who are moving up from playing junior varsity a season ago.
The Lady Spartans open up their season at 3 p.m. Thursday with a nine-team invitational at the Emporia High tennis courts.
