There were positives that Emporia High boys soccer coach Victor Ibarra can take away from its 4-1 loss to Maize South Thursday night.
Emporia High trailed 2-0 at halftime and 4-0 before the Spartans got on the scoreboard. Emilio Aleman scored his second goal of the season in the 73rd minute.
Ibarra says he’s still proud of the Spartans battling against Maize South, a program that claimed its first state championship in Class 5A last fall.
Emporia High is now 1-2 on the season. They’ll travel to Wichita for the Titan Classic that begins on Monday. Emporia High will take on Wichita Northwest at 3 p.m. in its first-round matchup.
