Longtime SOS Executive Director Connie Cahoone has announced plans to retire.
Cahoone came to SOS in 2012 after serving as a senior vice president at First Community Bank. Over the past decade-plus, Cahoone spearheaded the purchase and extensive renovations of the SOS Community Advocacy and Outreach Complex at 1420 C of E Drive, allowing for the consolidation of SOS services and programs in one location. She also oversaw the development of several major fundraisers, including Hope-A-Palooza, SOS Strong and Heroes for Hope. Cahoone also worked to expand services and personnel to meet the area need.
In addition to her work at SOS, Cahoone was also recognized last year by then-Kansas attorney general Derek Schmidt with the Community Champion Victim Service Award. She also served the area as United Way of the Flint Hills drive chair and has held leadership roles in other area organizations.
Cahoone succeeded Susan Moran, meaning SOS is looking for its third executive director since it began as an offshoot of the Emporia Chapter of the National Organization for Women in 1976. Cahoone will retire in March 2024. A nationwide search will begin shortly.
