The Emporia High cross country teams opened their season Saturday at Manhattan.
The Emporia High girls finished third with 77 points, 16 behind team champion Manhattan and three behind runner-up Junction City.
Freshman Madison Evans paced the Lady Spartans with a sixth-place finish with a time of 21:10.10. Freshman Emma Beatty finished 10th with a time of 21:27.
Senior Micah Sheffy-Harris finished 13th with a time of 21:32:71. Sheffy-Harris has set good goals for this season.
On the boys side, junior Daghyn True finished fourth with a time of 16:58.30. True says he’s confident after finishing 10th at state last year.
Emporia High did not field a full boys team. Gideon Lowery was the second Spartan to finish, taking 25th with a time of 18:28:90.
Coach Mike Robinson likes the potential of the group of runners he has on both teams.
Emporia High will host its lone home invitational next Saturday at Jones Park.
