Healthier Lyon County is in the early stages of its latest project to help increase modality within the local community.
During a recent appearance on KVOE’s Talk of Emporia Friday, HLC Grant Manager Daphne Mertens discussed the coalition’s current exploratory project which is set to be located at 9th Street. Mertens says HLC is planning to create a multi-modal pathway which is essentially a widened sidewalk capable of accommodating all forms of non-vehicular transportation.
Mertens says the sidewalk will not only be a great resource to those without a vehicle but also to those with disabilities who may have to use wheelchairs, walkers and the like. Mertens says HLC is currently in conversations with the Multi-Use Path Planning (MUPP) board for the project’s future.
Mertens says while they do have a vision in mind for the finished product, there are several variables they will have to take into consideration as plans continue to evolve.
