Drought conditions and supply chain woes have forced Strong City’s governing body to push the grand opening of its brand-new splash pad to nexte year.
There was talk of opening the facility during the Labor Day weekend, but the City Council voted to postpone the opening of the facility — and the ceremonial grand opening — to spring 2024. The move follows the recent executive order from Kansas Governor Laura Kelly including Chase County in a drought emergency as well as the ongoing water warning involving Strong City, Cottonwood Falls and Chase County RWD 1. Both are in place until further notice.
The move to postpone the project’s opening also reflects ongoing supply chain issues.
Splash Pads USA is handling construction and was nearly finished when the decision was made to postpone the opening. The pad is being built immediately east of the Strong City community-built playground and just south of the city’s current fire station.
