Lyon and other area counties are receiving state funding for significant bridge projects.
The Kansas Department of Transportation has approved a bridge improvement project on Lyon County Road P over the Cottonwood River, seven miles west and 0.5 miles south of Neosho Rapids. KDOT is providing $3 million with a county match of $736,035.
Osage County RS 1471, two miles east and less than a quarter-mile north of Lyndon, is getting $1,112,500 from the state. Osage County is contributing $256,306 as matching funds.
These projects are courtesy of the 2024 Kansas Local Bridge Improvement Program.
Morris County, meanwhile, is benefiting from the 2025 Off-System Bridge Program. K Avenue over the Neosho River west fork near White City is getting $750,000. The county is matching with almost $100,000.
All told, KDOT is funding 35 projects with a $42.3 million total investment from the state.
