There is a lot on the Emporia City Commission’s agenda for meetings Wednesday.
Budgetary matters will be a highlight for the action meeting that starts at 11 am. Commissioners will have have separate public hearings on exceeding the revenue-neutral rate and the 2024 budget before possibly having separate votes to approve both. The city’s five-year budget could well be approved alongside the 2024 budget, and commissioners could also approve an ordinance for annual appropriations as part of another vote.
In other business, commissioners will have a public hearing that could lead to approval of a tax abatement agreement allowing Michelin to expand its local operations. Commissioners could finalize an agreement involving the 55-unit Kretsinger Subdivision housing development and Ignite Emporia. An increase of the city’s transient guest tax, a vote to set a public hearing date for a Reinvestment Housing Incentive District on West Sixth Avenue just west of Industrial Road, a decision to award the Mechanic Street parking lot reconstruction and a separate decision to choose the Construction Manager at Risk for the upcoming fire station project are all part of the action meeting agenda.
Also, the City Commission could name members to the recently-formed Homelessness Advisory Board.
The action meeting’s consent agenda also includes a resolution on the annexation of 32 acres in the 1100 block of Kansas Highway 99 near Emporia Golf Course.
The study meeting agenda includes a discussion on zoning regulations, an update on the city water system and a possible partnership with CGI Digital for videos of the city and its facilities.
The action meeting is at 11 am at the Municipal Court Room. The study meeting follows at City Conference Room 1 AB.
