Plans remain on track for a Lyon County contraband and weapon possession case to go before the Kansas Supreme Court next week.
A Lyon County jury convicted Crista Hinostroza two years ago for trafficking contraband into a correctional facility, criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and interference with law enforcement after an alleged incident in December 2020. Hinostroza had appealed unsuccessfully to the Kansas Court of Appeals and is continuing her appeal process, saying there wasn’t enough evidence to convict her when detention officers found a handgun in her bra as she was admitted into the Lyon County Jail on an unrelated arrest warrant. She also says the jury instruction on trafficking contraband was not correct.
The hearing is officially at 10:30 am Tuesday.
