Another smoky, “bad air” day is ahead for the KVOE listening area.
Airnow.gov shows air quality conditions began deteriorating around 3 am Wednesday, going into the unhealthy for sensitive groups category. By 8 am, the air quality was unhealthy for everybody — and air quality conditions have stayed in that general unhealthy category since. PM2.5, or particulate matter 2.5 micrometers in diameter or less, is the main culprit. Air quality for PM10, or particulate matter 10 micrometers in diameter or smaller, is moderate. Ozone air quality is currently good.
The air quality began going downhill as northerly winds pulled smoke from grass fires in the Pacific Northwest and Canada all the way to north Texas. Winds are supposed to shift to the east and southeast Thursday morning, but air quality may not improve until after sunset.
Separately, showers and storms are unlikely but possible between midnight and sunrise Friday. There is a better chance of rainfall Sunday night through Monday — with high temperatures in the mid-70s for Monday afternoon.
