A motions hearing is ahead Friday for an Emporia man accused of rape in Douglas County.
Romeo D Martinez will appear in court at 1:30 pm to request changes in his bond terms, including a change in his bond category from $50,000 cash or surety to $50,000 personal recognizance or, in the alternate, $25,000 cash or surety. Martinez’s defense team is also asking for permission to live with family in Emporia with GPS monitoring as provided by Douglas County.
Martinez is charged with one count of rape after an alleged incident in early December. He faces anywhere from 147 to 653 months in prison as well as a fine of up to $300,000.
Martinez entered a not-guilty plea during a preliminary hearing last week. Additional hearing dates will be announced after Friday’s hearing.
