A trio of water main breaks in the Emporia city limits have been fixed.
Water went offline in the 200 block of West Logan outside the Friendship Center just before noon. The facility had its water off for nearly three hours, but the lunch meals were already prepared for delivery and the kitchen staff had already washed the lunchtime dishes.
Water also went offline along Union between First and South, as well as 10th between Constitution and Merchant. Both breaks were reported between 7 and 7:15 am. It took almost five hours for crews to fix the line on Union. The repair time on West 10th was about four hours.
Noon Thursday: Two finished, one under investigation
Emporia’s Underground Utilities workers started their work day a bit earlier than normal Thursday morning.
A water main break on a 4-inch line was reported around 7 am along Union Street, affecting residents nearby between First and South. That break was repaired just before noon. A separate break on a 6-inch line was reported minutes later affecting residents along 10th between Merchant and Constitution. The 10th Avenue line was repaired shortly before 11 am.
A new water main break was reported in the 200 block of West Logan just before noon. The Friendship Center, 221 West Logan, will be offline for up to six hours during the repair process. Other details are pending.
