Big plays for Liberal proved to be a difference maker early against Emporia High Friday night in Liberal.
The Redskins scored the first 30 points of the game and never looked back in a 47-14 victory over the Spartans.
Emporia High had multiple opportunities to put points on the board in the first half, but were unsuccessful. Liberal led 24-0 at the break and 30-0 before the Spartans got on the scoreboard in the third quarter.
Sheldon Stewart found Cooper Rech for a 5-yard touchdown reception making it 30-7. Liberal scored the next 17 points before Stewart scrambled for an 8-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
Emporia High finished the night with 319 yards of total offense. Stewart had 95 yards on 2o carries while also throwing for 167 yards. Rech had 67 yards on five catches.
Emporia High is 0-2 on the season. They’ll host Salina Central on Friday at Welch Stadium.
