SOS is receiving notable grant funding from three different revenue streams.
Kansas Governor Laura Kelly says SOS is receiving almost $620,000 through the 2024 State General Fund for Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault programs. Funding is used to expand outreach services to underserved areas and populations through counseling, shelters, safety planning, survivor advocacy and provider training.
Over $82,000 is going to the Child Advocacy Center. Funding will be used for staff training on conducting child-sensitive forensic interviews in cases of sexual or physical abuse against children as well as advocacy services, both for victims and “non-offending” caregivers.
Nearly $18,000 is going to CASA of the Flint Hills. This will bolster support for volunteers, who work with the courts, attorneys and child welfare representatives to help abused or neglected children get safe, permanent family placements.
All told, the state is awarding over $18 million across Kansas as a way to offset a 40-percent decrease in federal grant funds.
