Emporian Megan Hilbish is proud of her recent performance at the International Shooting Sports Federation’s world championships — but she’s already planning to step up her training when it comes time to tryout for the US national team next year.
Hilbish became the first woman to represent the United States in the 300-meter standard rifle open at any international competition, let alone performing at worlds. She finished 23rd in the 300-meter standard rifle open. She also finished 23rd in the women’s prone and 19th in women’s free.
Hilbish says the American team should have captured bronze — but it didn’t.
For the most part, the trip was uneventful — although Hilbish says she was briefly detained at the Istanbul airport because of her equipment.
With the world championships now over, Hilbish says she’s adjusting her training to give herself a chance to improve her results. She’s also continuing her work with local shooting organizations like Twin Rivers Shooting Sports and Lyon County 4-H.
