USD 253 Board of Education members could well approve the 2024 fiscal year budget when they convene for their regular meeting Wednesday evening.
The board will hold a pair of public hearings to exceed the revenue-neutral rate and for approval of the 2024 budget when they convene inside the Mary Herbert Education Center. The budget was approved for publication on August 23.
As it stands, the budget carries a $36 million total with a maximum spending authority of more than $119 million and a mill levy of 54.929.
In other business, board members will consider an additional extension request from the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce for the closing date of the Maynard Early Childhood Education Building. Board members previously approved a 60-day extension through September 14.
The board will also receive the latest Building for the Future construction update from McCownGordon, a purchase request for Frontline Central, a health and dental insurance renewal, a memorandum of understanding between the city of Emporia and USD 253 for school crossings and other district financial matters. A pair of executive sessions are also planned for personnel and superintendent evaluation.
The meeting will begin at 6:30 pm.
