The totals exceeded expectations from the National Weather Service, which had anticipated 0.25 inches at most. It’s the heaviest rainfall at the KVOE studios since 0.80 inches of rain on Aug. 9, and it almost equals the past two measurable rainfalls combined — 0.25 inches from Aug. 25 and 0.60 inches of rain from Aug. 13.
It remains to be seen whether there will be any improvement in the ongoing drought when the US Drought Monitor issues its next update Thursday. Most of the KVOE listening area is now in extreme to exceptional drought, the worst two levels on the Drought Monitor’s scale. Slight chances of showers are in the current forecast for Friday.
