The 2024 fiscal year budget for USD 252 Southern County is bringing a roughly $500,000 increase from the prior year, along with a more than one mill decrease.
The final budget, approved Wednesday by the board of education, carries a general and supplemental fund total of more than $7.1 million, up from the $ price tag the year before. The good news, however, is the district’s mill levy dropped more than a mill from 68.983 to 67.917.
Superintendent Ryan Muhlig says the increase in dollars is largely attributed to outside factors such as inflation and rising prices across the nation. On the other hand, he says the decrease in mills is largely due to valuation increases over the past year.
Following Wednesday’s meeting for Southern Lyon County and USD 253’s board meeting the same evening all of Lyon County’s school districts have approved their 2024 fiscal year budgets. In separate business, board members discussed the non-resident student enrollment policy, the disposal and/or sale of old technology and a revision to the early childhood handbook on meal and snack policy.
