It was not a good start to a 2-game homestand for the Emporia High football team as it hosted Salina Central at Welch Stadium.
The Mustangs scored the first 25 points and never looked back in a 46-13 victory over the Spartans.
Emporia High did not get on the scoreboard until 1:45 left in the second quarter when Sheldon Stewart found Rylan Crowell for a 1-yard touchdown pass. Salina Central then scored the next 14 points to lead 39-6 at halftime.
The Mustangs made it 46-6 with 11:56 remaining. Emporia High got one more touchdown in the fourth quarter with Stewart finding Cooper Rech for a 27-yard touchdown pass with 6:28 remaining.
Crowell led Emporia High with 53 yards rushing on 16 carries and had seven catches for 64 yards and a touchdown.
Stewart was 19-of-34 passing for 172 yards and two touchdowns and an interception. He also had 42 yards on 11 carries.
Rech had 50 yards on six catches and a touchdown.
Emporia High is now 0-3 on the season. The Spartans host Topeka High for Homecoming and their Centennial League opener next Friday at Welch Stadium.
