One of three people hospitalized after two separate crashes in north Lyon County last week has died.
Lyon County Sheriff Jeff Cope says Timothy Savage passed away after a wreck on US Highway 56 near Northern Heights High School on Thursday morning. Savage was driving a garbage truck westbound when a passenger-side tire went off the highway. His truck rolled as the result of the crash.
Savage, age 56 of Vassar, was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the wreck.
Meanwhile, the Kansas Highway Patrol has no updates after a crash involving a Lyon County deputy responding to the Savage crash. Both Deputy Benjamin Folks and 16-year-old Bryer Scales of Reading suffered suspected serious injuries as Folks approached Scales’s vehicle from behind, lights and sirens activated, and then hit the Scales car as Scales was reportedly turning left off US Highway 56 at the Allen city limits. Folks was taken by ambulance to Newman Regional Health, while Scales was airlifted to Stormont-Vail in Topeka.
USD 251 North Lyon County is having a prayer vigil for Scales at the Allen softball field on Wednesday after the Northern Heights homecoming events. The district says all community members are welcome.
