The Emporia Planning Commission has granted a zoning change to accommodate a business expansion in central Emporia.
During their monthly meeting, planning commissioners approved the rezoning of both 513 and 519 Congress Street from R-3 High-Density Residential to C-3 General Commercial. The change in zoning will allow for expansion of Emporia’s Quik Lube located at 301 West Sixth which owns both properties.
Emporia Planning and Zoning Administrator Justin Givens says the zoning change will not affect the Emporia Humanitarian Center which is located adjacent to the properties.
A condition of the rezoning is that the property must have “sufficient screening” on both the south and west sides to put the property in line with city zoning regulations. The business must have the screening in place within 90 days.
Commissioners approved the rezoning of both properties unanimously. The item will now go before the Emporia City Commission for final action.
The Planning Commission will next convene in October.
