Emporia Public Works is already hard at work Wednesday morning.
Repair crews were called out to 23rd and Hillcrest after a water main break around 6:30 am. Hillcrest between 21st and 23rd is an area that has seen several water main breaks over the past 10 days, including one Tuesday, as the city grapples with waterline failures across town.
City officials will be flushing certain fire hydrants in northwest Emporia this week as a way to reduce the number of water main breaks, with the goal of reducing the overall number to under five per week while avoiding any failures on the city’s major transmission lines.
