Emporia Main Street is gearing up for a busy weekend involving Emporia High alums from near and far.
The second annual Apella all-class reunion is taking place beginning Friday. Main Street Director Casey Woods says his agency is coordinating with Emporia High for the event schedule
Several local businesses have also come on board with events for specific classes.
Woods says the all-class reunion approach is appealing because it allows alums from several classes to connect or re-connect.
This follows the 2022 Apella, which was actually held before Emporia High started classes in July. Woods says some of the leadership has been consolidated to streamline the process — and there are a lot of classes involved in the planning process for months leading into this weekend.
This follows the Network Kansas Maker Summit at Emporia State University from Wednesday, and Woods says this was an impactful, “awesome” event.
Woods says the maker space concept is catching on nationally because of what he calls an “inventor class” of entrepreneurs needing outlets for their products. New businesses are not getting developed as these inventors go without ways to develop their ideas. In addition, Woods says America needs more small-to medium-sized production businesses that can benefit from maker spaces.
Woods says the Main Street Fab Lab is extremely busy with ideas, concepts and production projects. Director Jeremy Wharton received five requests for production while he was at the Maker Space Summit.
