Emporia High held a 10-6 advantage at halftime of its homecoming game with Topeka High Friday night at Welch Stadium.
However, the Trojans made adjustments coming out of the locker room. Topeka High scored the next 33 points en route to a 39-10 victory over the Spartans.
Topeka High led 6-0 with 8:27 left in the second quarter before the Spartans got on the scoreboard. Sheldon Stewart found Calvin Seeley for a 25-yard touchdown reception with 5:45 left in the second quarter.
Alex Allemang connected on a 37-yard field goal as time expired giving the Spartans a 10-6 advantage.
Topeka High scored 21 of the next 33 points in the third and added the final 12 in the fourth quarter.
Stewart went 16 of 28 for 156 yards and a touchdown and four interceptions. He also added 64 yards on 16 carries.
Jash Rios was the Spartans’ leading receiver with three catches for 38 yards.
Emporia High is now 0-4, 0-1 in Centennial League. Up next for the Spartans is a trip to Manhattan to face the reigning Class 6A state champions who fell to Washburn Rural 35-28.
