The Emporia State soccer team outshot Nebraska-Kearney 15-1 in the first period and never looked back in a 5-0 shutout victory over the Lopers at Emporia High School last night. The Lady Hornets applied pressure earlier and were rewarded with four goals in the first 23 minutes of the match. Junior forward Hadlie Lowe cashed in twice for the Lady Hornets in the first 17 minutes to give Emporia State a 2-0 lead. She said the team was able to pressure better against UNK than previous matches.
Ali Coash, Hannah Woolery, and Mackenzie Dimargo also scored goals for the Lady Hornets. Dimarco and Woolery also tallied assists for Emporia State. Head coach Bryan Sailer says, despite the lack of previous production, he believes his team can be explosive offensively.
Katie Stoskopf made five saves in net playing in the second half for Emporia State. The win moves the Lady Hornets to 1-3-3 on the season while the Lopers drop to 1-6. The game was counted as a nonconference game. Emporia State hosts Fort Hays State Sunday in their MIAA opener. The game has been moved to Emporia High School due to turf issues at the ESU Soccer Pitch. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
