Add the Lee Beran Recreation Center to the list of entities impacted by water main breaks the past two weeks.
The Rec Center at 313 West Fourth is closed Friday afternoon — and may be closed through the weekend after a water main break. Marketing Manager Shalla Bennett says this involves a line going into the building, while Assistant Director Amanda Gutierrez has clarified the line break is outside the building.
Gutierrez says the tentative plan is to remain closed through Saturday and reopen Sunday. Residents can call the Rec Commission office at 620-340-6300 or check emporiarec.org for updates.
City Communications Manager Christine Torrens says this is not on a city waterline.
Everybody using Emporia water is in a water watch, meaning voluntary conservation, until further notice — with the city still emphasizing no residential outdoor water use between 4-8 am.
