As Colorado authorities investigate the deaths of two Emporia women earlier announced as missing, separate GoFundMe fundraisers have been established for both women.
Linda Estrada, 44, and Amy Ford, 39, were found at an unspecified location in rural eastern Colorado on Wednesday, according to Emporia Police Capt. Lisa Hayes. She says a currently-unidentified person of interest was in custody on charges unrelated to the Estrada/Ford investigation and has been cooperating with authorities.
Estrada was reported missing Sept. 11, with Ford reported as missing two days later after they were last seen at a Denver convenience store Sept. 8. The investigation lasted 10 days, involving K-9s, airplanes and drones from Colorado authorities before the women were discovered.
Colorado Bureau of Investigation spokesperson Lisa Kohlbrenner has released information from the Kiowa County Sheriff’s Office saying the women were found near Eads, about 170 miles southeast of Denver and almost 370 miles due west from Emporia. The Sheriff’s Office says this is an active criminal investigation. An autopsy will determine the “official manner and cause of death,” with no additional information to be released at this time because of the ongoing inquiry.
KVOE will have updates as the investigation continues.
