Coming off their best offensive performance of the season, the Emporia State soccer team couldn’t replicate it on Sunday in a 3-1 loss to Fort Hays State in both teams MIAA opener at Emporia High School. The Hornets were outshot 12-10 by the Tigers who tallied the game’s first goal just over three minutes into the match before taking a 2-0 lead into halftime. The Tigers struck again quickly less than three minutes into the second half. The Lady Hornets picked up their only goal of the second on a Hannah Woolery score assisted by Angela Palmer. Emporia State dropped to 1-4-3 overall and 0-1 in MIAA play while the Tigers improved to 5-1-2 moving to 1-0 inside the Association. Emporia State returns to action Friday at home against Northeastern State. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
