It took a rally for the Emporia High volleyball team to sweep its home triangular with Baldwin and Tonganoxie.
Emporia High swept Tonganoxie, 25-16, 25-15, in its first match but had to wait a little while for Baldwin to defeat Tonganoxie in three sets.
After dropping the first set to Baldwin, 25-19, Emporia High rallied to take the final two sets, 28-26 and 25-20.
All three teams involved in the triangular are currently ranked in the latest Kansas Volleyball Coaches Association rankings. Emporia High is still ranked ninth in 5A. Baldwin is ranked second in 4A while Tonganoxie is ranked sixth in 4A.
Junior Sadie Rethman says a team meeting after dropping the first set to Baldwin motivated the Lady Spartans to rally. It wasn’t the first time this season that Emporia High has won a match overcoming a 1-0 deficit.
Coach Ping Wang says her team earned two hard wins.
Emporia High’s winning streak is now at 14 with its record now at 17-1.
Emporia High will host Ottawa in a best 3-out-of-5 dual at 5 p.m. Thursday.
