Investigators continue working to solve the deaths of two Emporia women found in eastern Colorado last week.
The last information release through the Kiowa County, Colorado, Sheriff’s Office and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation said 39-year-old Amy Ford and 44-year-old Linda Estrada were both found south of Eads, almost 370 miles due west of Emporia. The Sheriff’s Office says autopsy results will determine the “official manner and cause of death,” with no additional information to be released at this time because of the ongoing inquiry, but deputies consider this an “active criminal investigation.”
Estrada was reported missing Sept. 11, with Ford reported as missing two days later after they were last seen at a Denver convenience store Sept. 8. The investigation lasted 10 days, involving K-9s, airplanes and drones from Colorado authorities before the women were discovered.
Emporia Police Capt. Lisa Hayes says a currently-unidentified person of interest has been in custody on charges unrelated to the Estrada/Ford investigation and has been cooperating with authorities.
