There is a limited supply of COVID-19 vaccines available through Newman Regional Health, but those aren’t meant for widespread public consumption.
Director of Business Development Steven Bazan says the hospital has received an allotment through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Vaccines for Children Program, a federally-funded initiative that offers vaccines at no cost if children’s families may not have access to the shots because they can’t pay for them. Uninsured, underinsured, Medicaid-eligible, American Indian and Alaska native children are all eligible if they are under age 19.
There is no date announced for when COVID vaccine will arrive for the general public.
Also, residents can now get up to four at-home COVID test kits with the recent reopening of covidtests.gov. The latest kits will detect the current COVID variants.
