Emporia Child Care will be benefiting greatly from a colorful afternoon in C of E Park Sunday.
The inaugural family color run and carnival took place in the early to mid-afternoon hours and was organized by local student Evan Bennett. The event served as a fundraiser to support new playground equipment at Emporia Child Care, Bennett’s community service project as part of his taekwondo black belt process.
In addition to Bennett and his family, several local residents turned out to lend a hand with the event. Bennett says it was encouraging to see so much support for the cause.
Deb Crowl of Emporia Child Care says she’s very proud of the initiative and time that Bennett has given to their agency.
In addition to the color run around C of E, residents could also enjoy carnival games, inflatables and free popcorn throughout the afternoon. Exact totals are pending, however, as of the start of the event the color run had already raised more than $2,000 thanks to registration fees and a local matching donor.
