Emporia has a brand new choir that is set to begin rehearsals later this month.
The New Start Choir will hold its first open rehearsal on Tuesday, October 17 inside of Messiah Lutheran Church at 7:15 pm. Director Anna Ryan and choir participant Lydia Scott recently joined KVOE’s Morning Show to discuss the choir which was created to give differently-abled residents an opportunity to get up and sing on stage.
Ryan tells KVOE News this is an opportunity that has been needed within our community.
Scott was responsible for naming the choir saying she believes the choir is an opportunity to look past all of the negativity in the world and instead focus on a brighter future. Ryan says while it is focused on residents with disabilities, the choir is open to all and will serve as an opportunity to connect residents who otherwise may not have the opportunity to meet one another.
The choir’s first concert is tentatively set for Tuesday, December 17 at 7 pm alongside the Emporia Children’s Choir which Ryan is also the director of.
