After my Royals swept the Astros I suggested to Bobbi we go see them play the Yankees on Friday. We hadn’t been to see them all season and with them playing well and the weather cooler we decided to go and spend the night and see our son’s new home on Saturday.
Here’s our story.
Car gassed up, washed with my scooter on the lift we pulled out at four-thirty sharp. All was well past Lawrence when traffic backed up with a wreck ahead. We were delayed about 35 minutes, but no harm, no foul as traffic cleared and we were parked at the K in plenty of time.
We tooled up to the Diamond Club gate only to find out Bobbi’s purse exceeded the major league limit in size of 4.5” by 6.5”. Her options were: toss the purse or take it back to the car. She chose the latter; According to her watch it was 2500 steps each way – you do the math – there are 2,580 feet in a mile!
We missed the Yankees first but were in our seats for the Royals record-setting 9 run first inning with 2 players getting 2 hits in the inning.
While Bobbi enjoyed a cool Blue Moon, I ate a good cheddar brat. Who cared if each cost nearly ten dollars we were at a ball game.
In the seventh inning with the score 10-5 my exhausted mate suggested we might leave early to beat the traffic. Bobbi Witt was coming up with a runner on so I answered – if Bobby Baseball hit his record-setting 30th home run we would leave.
On the second pitch, Witt launched a BOMB into the seats in left-center field and we left.
We headed to the hotel we like near the K and when we checked in we were told we should unload my scooter and bring it in as there had recently been a rash of scooters stolen off the backs of cars. Dang!
Checked in to learn I had packed chargers for both my hearing aids and cell phone, but not plug-in adapters for their cords thinking all hotels have USB ports available in every room. (We do at Emporia’s Main Stay Suites.) but not the Holiday Inn Express where we stayed. Amazing how dependent one becomes on those devices.
Saturday morning we drove to Shawnee off K7 and 53rd Street to visit TJ and Catina’s new home which sits on 2 acres and will provide lots of mowing opportunities for our kids. Who knew?
Fun trip with a big thank you to Bobbi for all her help. Being the caregiver for someone forced to use a walker 24/7is tiring. She never complains and is the best helper anywhere, I love her and traveling together.
