Yet another major city project is expected to begin next week.
The city of Emporia is set to begin early construction processes for city parking lots in the 600 and 700 blocks of Mechanic Street. The plan is to start work in the 700 block of Mechanic, followed by work on the city breezeway and the 700 block alley. This half of the project could well last the rest of the calendar year.
Construction in the 600 block parking lot is expected to begin early next year.
The entire project could end by April. Work will impact parking for downtown businesses and also events held at White Auditorium.
This project comes as repaving continues on US Highway 50 between Mechanic Street and the east city limits, likely through the end of October. Work on the Peyton Street waterline project, eventually connecting the East 12th Avenue water tower to the Warren Way water tower, started late last month and will go into spring 2024.
