SOS is getting a sizable donation from an international company with a local presence.
Michelin is donating $100,000. The funds come from the $1 million raised during the company’s charity golf tournament in Greenville, South Carolina. Proceeds are split among 10 charities where Michelin employees live and work.
SOS Executive Director Connie Cahoone says she knew some funds were coming — but she and other SOS administrators had no idea what the final total would be.
Cahoone credited Michelin’s local leadership for its interest in the SOS mission.
Cahoone also says there was interest nationally and internationally, both from Michelin and its contractors or subcontractors.
For its part, Michelin North America Director of State, Local Government Affairs and Community Relations Will Whitley says the company is “humbled by the engagement and enthusiasm” demonstrated by donors.
Exactly how the money will be used is up for conversation, but Cahoone says the funds could be used for salaries, prevention education, client attorney services, emergency assistance with food or utilities and other programs or projects.
