Grammy Award Winning guitarist Berta Rojas was the headlining performer of the School of Visual & Performing Arts Music Program at Emporia State University’s annual gala benefit concert Saturday night at Albert Taylor Hall.
This is the school’s biggest fundraiser to provide scholarships for students majoring in music or others in the program who are not music majors.
Rojas says when she plays the guitar, she wants to tell stories that are close to her heart.
Rojas, a native of Paraguay, says it’s a goal for all natives of her home country to visit Kansas. Rojas says her time in Emporia was special.
Fundraising totals are pending. The music program’s next concert is Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. with the ESO Concert: “A Symphonic Frankenstein: Favorite Movements from Various Symphonies.”
