The Emporia State soccer team scored four consecutive goals to come from behind for a 4-3 victory at Missouri Western on Sunday afternoon in St. Joseph, Mo. The Griffons tallied just over two minutes into the game before making it 2-0 less than 10 minutes later. Senior forward Anna Burnett picked up her first goal of the year midway through the first half to cut the deficit in half, then notched her second on an assist by Mackenzie Dimarco to tie the match just over five minutes into the second half. Then Mackenzie Dimarco scored back-to-back goals in an 11-minute span to give the Lady Hornets a 4-2 lead. The Griffons scored with less than two minutes to play but couldn’t rally for a draw. The scores for Dimarco gave her 69 career goals and set a new MIAA record for career goals passing Jada Scott of Central Missouri who scored 67 between 2014 and 2018. The Lady Hornets return to action Friday against Central Missouri. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m. and is scheduled to be ESU’s first match of the season on the ESU Soccer Pitch.
