For the first time since August 31st, the Emporia High boys soccer team got to play a home match.
On Monday, the Spartans hosted Topeka High in a make-up match from September 21st. It was a homecoming the Spartans needed as they opened up their four-game homestand to end the regular season with a 2-0 victory over the Trojans.
Sophomore Kevin Magana gave Emporia High a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute.
Senior Alex Moisman scored from 30 yards out on a free kick in the 77th minute giving the Spartans a 2-0 lead and a cushion it wanted toward the end of the match.
Junior Andrew Ruxton earned the shutout in goal on a special day.
Emporia High coach Victor Ibarra says it was a great win to get after playing the last nine matches away from home.
Emporia High, now winners of three straight, is 7-6 on the season, and 2-2 in Centennial League play. The Spartans continue their four-game homestand at 6:15 p.m. Thursday when they host Wichita South.
