The Lyon County History Center has events this week highlighting one of Emporia’s founding citizens.
Johanna Wickman, author of “The Forgotten Senator: The Life and Character of Preston B Plumb,” will be in Emporia for several events. Wickman will visit with the public for a meet-and-greet, come-and-go event at Red Rocks State Historic Site, 927 Exchange, from 7-8:30 pm. She follows that with a book discussion at 1 pm at the Lyon County History Center, 711 Commercial, and a presentation on Plumb at 7 pm. These events are free and open to the public.
Wickman began researching Plumb in 2012 while researching the 11th Kansas Volunteer Cavalry, Plumb’s regiment that was stationed in Casper Wyoming at the end of the Civil War. She released “The Forgotten Senator” this past March and is now working on several porjects connected to both Plumb and the 11th Kansas Volunteer Cavalry.
Funding for Wickman’s Emporia visit is provided by Humanities Kansas.
