Emporia Police have released the names of those involved in Monday’s vehicle-pedestrian injury crash in downtown Emporia, as well as the circumstances connected to the wreck.
Police Capt. Ray Mattas says 23-year-old Colin Wikel was walking northbound in the west crosswalk at Sixth and Commercial when the incident happened just after 7:30 pm. Mattas says witnesses told officers Wikel was crossing when the signal indicated he wasn’t supposed to do so.
Meanwhile, 19-year-old Yahir Castillo was driving a car eastbound in the inside lane on Sixth and had a green light. A vehicle in the outside lane didn’t continue eastbound when Wikel went across the street. Castillo did and clipped Wikel on the passenger side.
Wikel went to Newman Regional Health with unknown injuries.
